As an artist my focus is finding destructive elements in the world of femaleness and bringing them into the light using garment and performance. Often the work builds from the imagery of fashion and advertising and it eventually becomes a garment with a history and character. To heighten the interaction among a garment, its environment, a conscious performer and the objective viewer is the ultimate goal. For me this is the moment in which I also become a choreographer of sound, mood, body and space. In each performance I aim to combine a traditional heritage from ancestral women in our past with a modern feminist critique. I create while always keeping in mind my reverence for the female body and a desire to find elements that are symbolic of social restraints and cultural traditions of beauty. By blending these influences I wish to initiate a dialogue between the viewers personal concepts of female identity and sexuality and the identities I create.
